Rock and jazz musician Jeff Healey died Sunday in a Toronto hospital after a battle with cancer. He was 41.
Healey lost his sight at age one as a result of Retinoblastoma, a rare form of retinal cancer.
Due to his blindness, Healey taught himself to play guitar with the instrument held across his lap while seated.
His unique playing style, combined with his blues-oriented vocals, earned him a reputation as a teenage musical prodigy. He shared stages with George Harrison, B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and March Hare had the opportunity to share the stage with him in the summer of 2007 shortly before he died.
He will be sadly missed.

Happy New Year and all the best in 2009.
2008 was a fantastic year for DHM. We built a new recording facility and have several projects underway. We hosted two performance seminars and did some private training, and we were very happy to be part of both the BC Talent search and Mountainfest and have the opportunity to work with many developing artists. We also published articles on performance (Kimberly) and vocals (Dan) that were very well received and helpful to those wishing to improve their ability.
The summer and Christmas time were especially busy as we did one hundred live shows with the March Hare Band in 2008 including some fly in dates to Florida and around Western Canada along with many festivals, casino dates, and almost sixty corporate one nighters. We were also very proud to once again be the house band at Merritt Mountain Music Festival.
Lots of exciting things are happening in 2009 at Dawn Haze Music as we continue to actively record and submit songs for publication. The studio is in great shape and putting out some quality music as we look to release the next project midyear. There will be lots more live shows as March Hare continues to be very popular and in demand.
Dawn Haze Services have been expanded to not only develop performance seminars but provide individual development services for those who are serious about learning the art of musical entertainment. There will be at least two seminars this year, along with personal coaching and development in private sessions, and we are also looking at doing a seminar outside the Vancouver area.
After four years of work Dan has finished his book entitled Regrets, They’ve Had a Few: Practical Wisdom from the Aged, that will be released in February. This is a substantial work that results from interviews with over 300 people as Dan shares what they said about building meaning and minimizing regrets. More information will be posted when it’s in print.
Thank you for your interest and check back often for new updates!

The music business continues to be very busy for Dan, Kim and the March Hare Band. August has been particularly busy with private events, Casino dates and corporate shows. Dawn Haze Music continues to submit music for Film, Television and emerging artists. The coaching and lessons have slowed over the Summer but will resume later in August and into the Fall. Dan and Kim have begun working on a new March Hare CD to be released in June 2010. It will be a follow up to Wonderland.

Dan and Kim have done many fund raisers over the past weeks starting with a show at the Red Robinson Show Theatre to raise funds for the Eagle Ridge Hospital. Steve Darling from Global TV was the M.C. and Bill Vanderzalm served as auctioneer. It was a very fun and successful event.
March Hare was once again invited to be part of the Professional Fire Fighter’s fundraiser at Joe Fortes in Vancouver. The hosts were Riaz Meghji and Dawn Chubai from City TV’s Breakfast Television. Coincidentally they also hosted the Little Hugs Big Hearts fundraiser for Canuck Place. March Hare was once again invited to perform for this very successful event for a great cause.
Dan has performed for Christmas functions at various federal institutions over the past fifteen years and was able to do an event on November 19th. He’ll be appearing at another one on Dec 14th.
Kim recently joined her friends Rachael Chatoor and Layla Vaugeois at Canuck Place to sing Christmas Carols for the lighting of the Christmas lights. Kim was also able to reconnect with BC Health Minister Kevin Falcon who was also there. We had fun with him last year at his annual Beans and Jeans event.
Well there’s lots going on in the world of Dawn Haze Music. The Summer was the best ever for March Hare and Dan completed his long awaited acoustic CD. It has been very well received and the reviews are fantastic. Check out the CD on Reverb Nation. Dan’s book, Regrets, They’ve Had a Few, was released in May and continues to do very well as he promotes it with many speaking engagements and promotional appearances.
